Duration:       One Semester

Type:              Elective

Eligibility:      Grade 11, Intro. to Fine Arts, Studio Art, Multimedia Pre-req's

                    Faculty permission required

Honors Art Portfolio is a course requiring the student to develop a strong portfolio that may be used during the college admissions process.  Faculty permission, Introduction to Fine Arts, Studio Art and Multimedia Art are prerequisites for this course.  It is encouraged that the student also complete the Painting course before taking Honors Art Portfolio.  The final portfolio should display a high degree of accomplishment and showcase the student's strengths as an artist. An emphasis will be placed on the quality, concentration and breadth of each portfolio.  A student's individual goals will drive the content of her portfolio.  Students will be required to complete 20 physical artworks, an electronic portfolio and a number of documents to support the portfolio.  In-depth reading and writing assignments will be given to aid the planning and critique processes.  The course concludes with a final portfolio presentation that is open to the school community.  Some course work is assigned over the summer break before the course is taken.

     Art Portfolio Fall 2010

Please create three artworks displaying your area of interest and artistic focus.  We will use these artworks as a starting point for your portfolio

Also, begin researching college programs that are of interest to you.  Most programs have specific and strict portfolio requirements and guidelines that must be followed.  It will be easier to plan your portfolio if you have these requirements and guidelines from the start.

     Tips for creating your portfolio:

  •   Check the portfolio requirements!

  •   Follow Directions

  •   Present 15-20 pieces in your portfolio

  •   Display strong use of positive and negative space

  •   Try working with text

  •   Make interesting compositions out of the mundane

  •   Include a piece that shows reflections or metallic surfaces

  •   Show variety of mark making a line quality

  •   Personal work sets you apart from your peers
