In order to be an effective textbook note taker, the following suggestions might be helpful:

•  Getting the right amount of information, is essential for effective learning. 

               A. Too much info makes it hard to read and remember.

               B.  Too little info may lack meaning. Connectiveness between main ideas and

                     supporting ideas may be missing.

•   Be consistent and organized in your note-taking.

               A. Develop codes for  your notes.

                     1. Mark main ideas and details

                     2. Use cue words in the left margin.

                     3. Mark material for which you need clarification.

•   Be sure your notes reflect the content of the reading selection
