HONORS PRE CALC ASSIGNMENTS   for 547-01 and 547-02

                                         Fall 2010-Spring 2011

For book: Pre Calculus by Robert Blitzer ISBN: 0131874799

 Follow the instructions below carefully:

You must have your graphing calculator with you for every class. This course integrates advanced calculator techniques which may improve your timed test-taking skills

Class Organization and Grading will follow the “Rule of Three”:

Every class will have an assigned date corresponding to the exact date we meet

Attached to the class date will be THREE COMPONENTS which must be labeled in your notebook in the top right hand corner.

CN: Topic discussed in class and all class notes

RO: all assigned reading and outlining corresponding to the topic discussed in class

                       DP: all assigned HW problems

.

Homework assignments beginning the first class in August will be dragged and dropped by me from this site. You are only to use this site as a resource to remind you of the classroom policies and assignment procedures stated above and below. You do not do any of the assignments below unless they appear on the daily assignments link under you class web site

                                               Note well

*****   These assignments are the BARE BONES of the course. Thought Experiments, Writing about Mathematics and Technology quests will supplement all of the following assignments.

If for any reason class is cancelled, (snow, ice, other issues) you must stay on schedule and complete the homework for the assigned class day on the daily assignment link.

Be sure all three components (CN), (DP), and (RO) are properly labeled, dated, and organized in the top right hand corner of your homework page and the actual assignment written below for full credit.

Throughout the year and possibly daily, there will be additions

To these assignments either given in class or posted on the web.

Check the daily assignments site and/or your email every day.

Criteria for reading and outlining assignments :( RO)

The letters RO means “Read and outline”. Outlining must be done thoughtfully and carefully otherwise you are wasting precious time.

DO NOT COPY THE BOOK WORD FOR WORD: Synthesize and organize main ideas, tricks and theorems you need to remember.

Criteria for doing problems :( DP)

The letters DP means, “Do problems”.  Each topic covered in class will have a graded DP component that helps you practice applying the concepts. Some of these will be collected. Some will not. ALL will be graded. As soon as a topic is covered in class that parallels the section  that correlates to the problems assigned in bare bones, you are responsible for doing those problems THAT NIGHT. The next class you will be accountable (either quizzed or homework collection or oral examination)   for the work. Welcome to college.

                             Criteria for class notes: (CN)

All important notes and discussions are to be taken in class and recorded for future reference and study as well as for (33%) of your graded component for that particular class day.

SPECIAL NOTICE:

Throughout the next two terms, expect to spend 1-2 hours PER class hour each

Week. So on a three class week, 4.5 class hours will yield a 4.5-9 hour study

            Week!!

All Hand-in DP’s or hand-in RO’s will be underlined! Note well.
