Lesson Unit/Topic

  • 12.8 harder questions

.DP on page 769 odds (at least 45 miniutes)

Goal? represent certain types of functions as sums of power series by manipulating geometric series or by  differentiating or integrating such a series.

Remember the usefulness of this:

a) some functions  do not have elementary antiderivatives

b) you can solve differential equations

c) you can approximate functions that are unreasonable with the reasonableness of polynomials!!!!

3/16/11

(F; Spirit Week)

Lesson Unit/Topic

  • Practice of Power Series p.769 evens

  • Taylor and MacLaurin Series

RO 12.10  ELEVEN PAGES!!!!!

Have this fully done by 3/22

Really compartmentalize the theorems and applications by studying very carefully every solution example.APPLICATIONS ARE IN 12.11 so master the concepts and theories first and then we will jump into the applications.

PEEK PREVIEW: Use Taylor Polynomials to approximate non-user friendly functions. Also physicists and engineers use them in the fields of " relativity(Einstein?),optics, blackbody radiation, electric dipoles, velocity of water waves, and building highways across a desert!!!!"

3/18/11

(B; Spirit Week)

Lesson Unit/Topic

  • Taylor and MacLaurin series again!

  • Important because they enable us to integrate otherwise un-integrable functions

  • WHAT DID NEWTON DO?He would integrate functions by first expressing them as power series and then integrate the series term by term!!!!

YOU MUST KNOW BY HEART For AP EXAM:
TABLE ONE p.779  Notice that if you just know the expansion for sin you only have to differentiate term by term to get cos.
