Course:
Digital Photography - 330photo1
Duration: One Semester
Type: Elective
Eligibility: 11, 12,
Prerequisites: Introduction to Fine Arts, Studio 1
This elective course
provides students with the skills to take, alter, print, critique and
appreciate digital photography. This approach will be taught from both
technical and aesthetic perspectives. Students will learn how to control
the functions of a digital camera and create a balanced and interesting
composition. Students will learn how to manipulate their digital
photographs through the use of Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 and will
have an introduction to the Adobe Creative Suite 4. Digital file
organization will be explained and practiced. Students will also learn
how to attain a high quality print with the technology provided.
We will examine the history of photography with an emphasis on social
realism during the twentieth century. Two photo projects will be
required. The first project is a photo calendar to be completed at the
end of the first quarter. The second project will be a photojournalism
project documenting a-day-in-the-life of either themselves or someone
else. In addition, students will engage in short-term photo assignments
throughout the semester in order to practice and perfect the techniques
introduced in class. Along with vocabulary, writing assignments,
critiques and formal assessment, students will work toward completing
their 12 piece photojournalism exhibition to be presented to the class
and displayed in the art complex.
